Week 7

Today we need to finish drawing our lines onto the map. We also plan on attempting to get the robot to follow the lines on our map. We gave Cody and Shiquille 3 tasks to complete by the end of the session, so that they have always got something to do. We need to improve on keeping our buddies on task and making sure they don't get bored. We wont be coming out next week so we need to make sure that we give our buddies something to do while we are away and so that we can start to stick stuff on our map. Our 3 tasks for the day are to build Shrek's house, finish the lines on our map and also start to create the pond.

Shiquilles blog!!!

We had Room 2 from Otumoetai intermediate with us on thursday, week 2 in the hall. First we had to make a plan and it was along the theme of the robot having to save hansel and gretal from the witches house. We put in all sorts of different fairy tales into our map. On one of the sides was the good, happy storys and on the other side was the bad side full of ghosts and vampires, a wicked witch and wolfs and ware wolves that are actually humans. so then we made the forest sloor but not all of it. Then Samantha and Kristie were teaching us how to do the proggraming on the laptopand then we put the bottles on the floor and we had to make them go in a figure of eight. We had sooooooooooo much fun!!!!!!!

Fun Fun Fun !

In the first week we met up with our buddies. Our buddies names are Kristie and Samantha. We had to program the robot to go around a bottle and come back. In the second day we programmed the robot to do a figure of eight. In the third week we went to the library and made light sensors. It was hard because we did not have a piece, but Miss Cording went and got us a piece.

What a blast!!! This time round we got to start making 3-D objects. We started off by making a six by three grid. After making the grid, we started to make some trees to go around the edges of the path. We had to do a hard task with the robots as well. We had to learn how to work our bump sensor on the robots and then once we had figured it out, we had to make an obstacle for our robots to go around, bump into and change direction. Once we had completed that task we had to figure out how to program our light sensors so that they could go around and follow the lines. Our forest floor is starting to slowly come together as we made trees and used some real plants as well. We have started to plan our obstacles on the grid so that the robot can find his way through the scary and happy parts of our forest so it can rescue Hansel and Gretal. This week unfortunately we did not succeed with the light sensor programing. During the next week we will start the programing for the Hansel and Gretal challenge.

What a blast (Week 2)

Thursday 6th August

We had a blast. We got to do several challenges and design our forest floor. Our forest floor was awesome, it had a variety of fairytale characters and also a haunted valley. We got to do a fun challenge with the robots as well, we had to teach our buddies how to use the NXT program so that they could make it go to the blue line all by themselves. Morning tea was the best part. We played on their awesome confidence course and found an awesome volleyball net that we had fun with. Our buddies gave us a tour of their back field it was really big. After morning tea we got a new challenge, we had to make our robot go around two sand filled milk bottles doing a figure of eight. We had so much fun we can't wait till next time.

1st Robot week!!!!!!

We met our group today, they are the coolest kids on the planet.
We had so much fun. Today we did a challenge where we had to program the robot using the NXT units. We had a starting line and several mini milk bottles marking the turning point for our robots. Our group proggramed the robot to go forward then turn right and then loop it so it could get around the milk bottle. My team succeeded in the challenge and worked really well together. I hope that next week we will work just as well and succeed in whatever challenge is thrown our way.
